Blog Challenge: 10 Days of Beauty

I came across this challenge from my favorite makeup artist and long time bff Nina Singanon’s instagram feed and I immediately knew I wanted to do it. However, my full make up collection is back at home in the Philippines and i only brought along the basics with me here in Sweden for my 1-year stint as a foreign student.

But I’m bored now, and i’m trying to distract myself as I don’t want to disturb my cutie honey bunny as he is resting. It was partly my fault that he did not get a lot of sleep the other night (it’s not what you think, you dirty-minded you! :p) and he had a long day at work yesterday.. So I’m letting him rest and do his thing for now while I do my thing.

The thing is tho, I barely have a thing! haha. hashtag: problems of a bored trust fund baby when it’s summertime and she hates nature! blegh. It’s my delusions of grandeur at full play again! haha. I digress. To fill my hours, I have decided join this makeup blog challenge created by Maj of makeupinmanila2014.blogspot.com. I like her blog too! it’s interesting, and she does reviews of local makeup brands, and i’m a fan of local makeup brands!

but instead of posting everyday, i decided to post everything in one go (not following instructions!) simply because i need to distract myself! haha. maybe i will do one with my full makeup collection once i’m back in Manila.

Jetsetter: Airplane Kit

My Mom and Aunts started me early on the travelling bit. I was barely a year old when they first took me on a 10-hour roadtrip.

I was almost 3 years old when I first rode the plane out of the country.

I was 11 when I first travelled by plane solo (to visit my aunt).

Needless to say, the travel bug bit me really badly and I have not gotten it out of my system.

I do not claim to be a travel pro, but over the years of traveling I’ve picked up a few tricks here and there. I’ve also fallen prey to a lot of packing and travel mishaps that I know exactly what not to do when travelling, but hey that’s an entire blog post altogether.

Right now, let’s talk about the airplane essentials.

I’ve already covered the basic travel outfit/s for short or long haul flights, so let me share with you what I absolutely cannot live without inside the airplane.

These are not the carry-on must haves which I will probably cover in another blogpost.

This list is for when you’re already seated in the plane with your carry-on trolley in the overhead compartment and/or your handbag under your seat. and I like to put these things in a clear pouch. As you know, I love making packing lists!

Normally, before I settle in, i make googly eyes at the cute steward or hunky fellow passenger (whichever strikes my fancy) to help me carry the trolley bag atop the overhead compartment. I thank him with a coy littlle smile afterwards. and then I take my iPad and clear pouch off my hand bag and then I make sure my hand bag is under my seat. This is if I don’t need or want to change into my in-flight “uniforrm.” Otherwise, I change into my “uniform” right after i get the trolley settled in the overhead compartment. (For short flights, I don’t really change.)

anyway, these are the contents of my “clear pouch.” Enjoy! Read more…

Packing List: Bangkok Edition

My friend C and I have been planning an overseas trip for quite some time now. We originally wanted to go somewhere in Europe or Australia, but we decided that it is too ambitious considering the budget we’re gonna spend is coming out of our own pockets (and not from our parents, mind you! We like to delude ourselves sometimes that we are “living independently” already) so we decided to go somewhere in Asia first. We’ve shelved the Europe idea for 2014-2015, fingers crossed.

I originally wanted to go to Singapore because it has been years since i’ve been there last, and i haven’t been to the new Universal Studios yet, but she went there early this year with her family so that’s out of the question. I vetoed Hong Kong because i go there practically every year, ’til 2010. And I refused to go to Bali until I get some semblance of my bikini bod back! We’d rather go somewhere we’d soak up the culture, and we landed on Bangkok.

But of course, the challenge did not stop there. Being both competitive, we decided to have an extra challenge. We should survive a 6-7 day trip with just ONE (1) carry-on bag and ONE (1) handbag! (mainly because I know that the shopaholic in her would not be able to resist those Bangkok goodies!) My downfall of course is that I tend to be a pack-rat and I end up overpacking. Of course I intend to correct that via this challenge.

It worked to our favor that the airline we chose gave discounts if you travel light, meaning you don’t check-in a bag or luggage. I decided to take my Hawk trolley bag that is carry-on safe and converts into a backpack

So to ensure my victory, I decided to have a packing list  do a test-packing and guess what? I succeeded, with plenty of room to spare!

So what do you pack on a 6-7 day trip to Bangkok? well it depends. if i had my bikini bod back, then screw the temples. I’d be hitting the beach from day one and you’d have to drag me outta there kicking and screaming! my luggage would just be bikinis, cover-ups, sunblock, sunnies, a beach towel and a kindle. But not having my bikini bod is another sad story altogether, and let’s just continue with this post
